The Spatial Organization of the Population of Ethiopia, 1965-1984

Abstract

Spatial policies and the consequent strategy adoptions require basic information on the use o[ space by people. Whether a nation pursues the goal o[ regional development or economic growth asects developmental strategy preferences and the latter in turn are manifested in S011}e form o[ spatial organization. A technique o[ showing spatial organization has been developed from the concept of "information gain," and on the basis of this statistic, a tentative conclusion is reached that there exists some level of organization o[ population in Ethiopia, and such organization increased over the 19 year period (1965- 1984). It is also hypothesized that most of the overall population changes are largely attributed to micro-scale adjustments of the people, or movements of intra·regional  nature.
