Fostering public health leadership in Africa
Abstract
The 13th World Health Congress has been conducted between April 23-27, 2012 in Addis Ababa and the Ethiopian Public Health
Association (EPHA) has successfully hosted the event. In addition to the various events that took place for promoting global public health, the occasion has also resulted in the official opening of the African Federation of Public Health Associations (AFPHA) with the convening of its first meeting and general assembly (1). This was certainly a golden opportunity for the enhanced promotion and development of public health activities in the region, and “the establishment of AFPHA provides an excellent opportunity for
Africa to have its own role in shaping the regional and global public health agenda” (2).
