Dr. Mamo holds his PhD and MA degrees from the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, and his B. A degree in Sociology and Social Administration from the Department of Sociology and Social Administration, Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His research interests are Land tenure/ policies and rural livelihoods; informal mutual assistance mechanisms (social protection); legal pluralism and conflict resolution; gender power relations, Indigenous knowledge systems, environment, and society; youth livelihoods and youth-parent/elders’ relations.

Joel Babatunde Babalola (PhD, Professor)

Distinguished scholar in Educational Management at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Prof. Babalola’s ongoing research delves into the integration of indigenous knowledge into education. He explores African leadership traditions like Ubuntu, which stresses community importance, and servant leadership which prioritizes community needs. His work advocates for a holistic approach to school leadership that fosters community, empathy, and a well-rounded education encompassing academic subjects, physical education, arts, and extracurricular activities.

Ronan McDermott (PhD)

Dambala Gelo Kutela (PhD)

Associate Professor of Economics at the School of Economics and Finance, Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.  Professor Dambala Gelo’s current research focuses on applied microeconomics with a focus on institutional and organizational questions, differentiated product demand, technology adoption, poverty traps, human capital, and energy transition. He investigates questions from the theoretical bases of behavioral economics, game theory, decision theory, and the life-cycle hypothesis (LCH) model. For the most part, he uses natural and field experiments to test theories and evaluate policy/program interventions. Recently, he has started using causal machine learning methods (causal forest and lasso) for impact evaluation of policy/program interventions and shocks including the COVID pandemic.
